We have a new location for our DFA MeetUp for at least the next 6 months. Close to campus (practically on campus) yet with a convenient parking garage right next door:
The International Community Church (AKA, the Hillel Foundation) building at 1107 University Ave.
Some of you may know this as the site of the Sierra Club meetings. It is quiet, with kitchen facilities if the need arises, and rent is only $15/meeting. An added bonus is that Cold Stone Ice Cream and other downtown eateries/coffee shops are a mere short walk away!
The March Meetup will be focused on how best to help the local Democratic organization...get moving with the new HQ, plan to support Democrat Days, etc

Start: 7:30 pm
End: 8:30 pm

There has been a lot of previous discussion on how to properly frame issues. I can't think of a more difficult and challenging issue to frame than the issue of homosexuality and the bible. This episode is specifically targeted towards informing Christian fundamentalists in terms they can understand how the bible has been misinterpreted to condemn gays and lesbians.

The Rev. Mel White of Soulforce (www.soulforce.org) will interview the well-respected biblical scholar Rev. Lewis Smedes on how he came to realize that the bible should not be used to condemn gays and lesbians. Rev. Smedes frames a very complex topic brilliantly so that the other side can understand our position. He is extremely persuasive.

This from Deborah Beste, Executive Director of Phoenix Programs

Addiction impacts everyone!!!
Governor Blunt is proposing $10 million in CUTS to the Missouri's
Mental Health Budget.

What impact would these drastic cuts have on Columbia and Boone
County?

1) Most state funded drug and alcohol treatment services will be
eliminated.
2) Crime will increase, and without treatment as an option, demand for
prison space will increase.
3) Utilization of emergency rooms and unpaid medical care will
increase.
4) Homelessness will increase.

Please write Governor Blunt, State Representatives and State
Senators and encourage them not to make these cuts.

Also, please sign on to an on-line petition at
http://www.petitiononline.com/fmamhsa1/ and ask Governor Blunt to
reconsider his cuts!!!
